The Business Development Specialist supports the Practice Group and Team Leaders in driving new business and increasing revenue for the firm. The Specialist works under the joint supervision of the assigned Practice Group Leaders and the Business Development Director, and is responsible for managing activities associated with our business development goals. The Specialist is expected to understand and help improve procedures, tools and initiatives and to keep team members informed on progress. The ideal candidate understands the legal industry, is experienced in proactively solving problems, is a strong writer and communicator and thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • Work with practice group and industry team leaders to provide input on short and long-term business development plans and initiatives.
  • Assist in the creation of annual goals for assigned groups/teams.
  • Attend and participate in meetings with assigned practices/teams to create, implement and monitor progress on business development goals.
  • Support the development of new business proposals, marketing materials and presentations, acting as the primary contact for the group/team and executing on projects utilizing the marketing and library research functions as appropriate.
  • Prepare submissions for Chambers and like recognitions.
  • When appropriate, help with accountability and the leadership role in pipeline management.
  • Support the maintenance of the firm’s CRM (Interaction) for assigned practices/teams, leveraging the Legal Executive Assistants.
  • Utilizing the library research functions where appropriate, conduct and analyze market data on clients, prospects and competitors.
  • Create and maintain marketing materials and bios for assigned practices/teams.
  • Ensure that updated materials are added to relevant sources (i.e. Internet, team shared files).
  • Assist with the client intake process for new clients.
  • Work with marketing to expand practice/team visibility and enhance the firm's profile in a variety of ways, including seminars, trade organization participation, article placement, newsletters, survey responses, directory listings, public relations and transactional databases.
  • Provide support on other practice/team/firm projects as requested by managers.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Marketing, Communication, Business or equivalent.
  • 5 years of sales or business development experience preferred, ideally in a legal or professional services environment.
  • Impeccable and sustained attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with experience building rapport and creating strong relationships with employees at all levels.
  • Self-starter with the ability to independently lead and manage a wide variety of practice groups, client service teams, and industry teams is essential.
  • Baseline knowledge of assigned practices/teams/industries and a basic understanding of all practices in the firm to facilitate cross-selling.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills are required, as well as the ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and pay attention to detail.
  • Must possess a strong customer service attitude and work well under pressure, with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to be a collaborative team player
