The School of Continuing Education’s Marketing Department is looking for a proactive, outgoing, organized, and detail-oriented individual to direct a team of professionals in a dynamic, fast-paced, educational environment.

The Marketing Department at the School of Continuing Education (SCE) supports both school marketing initiatives and the school’s individual educational departments which offer 1,000 programs annually to over 13,000 participants of all ages, through short courses, workshops, events, seminars, and certificate programs. The SCE marketing department is a dynamic, fast-paced environment, responsible for a wide range of marketing for both traditional and new channels. The director serves on the SCE leadership team and supports a range of school marketing and operational projects.

The Marketing Director will oversee all aspects of school-wide marketing plans and campaigns and works in conjunction with account executives and educational program managers to produce targeted marketing strategies and tactics for various audiences. The director will manage the operations of the marketing department and a professional staff that includes: (3) graphic designers, a website developer, a data specialist, communications manager, (2) account executives and 4-6 students. Under the general supervision of the Provost’s Deputy for Continuing Education, the Marketing Director is expected to be proactive, outgoing, organized, collaborative and detail-oriented, while also possessing excellent communications skills.

Marketing Department Management:

Operations

  • Manage all department operations and work flow. Ensure all work moves through the department smoothly and on time. 
  • Manage capacity of department and monitor job status, troubleshooting any problems.

Educational Program Area Marketing Coordination

  • Oversee development of individual area marketing plans and coordinate those plans applying SCE and UWM marketing guidelines and administrative policies.

Human Resources

  • Responsible for all aspects of department human resources management. Including: hiring, training, evaluations, and professional development.

Budget

  • Develop and manage department budget to ensure compliance with overall SCE budget goals.

Communications

  • Ensure communications within the marketing department staff and with programming staff (SCE clients) are clear and understood by both parties.
  • Facilitate meetings and design communication strategies, using conflict resolution and emotional intelligence abilities.

Planning

  • Create and update annual SCE marketing plan and in conjunction with Account Executives create and update specific marketing department plans. 
  • Organize meetings to develop plans and ensure team buy-in.

SCE Marketing:

The Marketing Director is responsible for developing and implementing an annual marketing plan for the SCE. A major focus is the direction of the SCE website, digital marketing, marketing research, digital analytics, channel plans, lead generation, and data management. The director is responsible for ensuring all members of the department interface effectively with both internal and external customers.

General Administrative:

  • Active member of SCE leadership team
  • Attend monthly UWM marketing meetings
  • Work with SCE support department to ensure smooth operations
  • Ensure compliance with all SCE, university, and system policies

Professional Development and Service:

  • Appropriate professional development activities annually
  • Service activities related to the university, community, and profession

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or related field

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 7+ years of experience in progressive marketing positions
  • Experience in developing marketing strategies and tactics
  • Experience with digital marketing and analytics
  • 5 years experience managing a professional staff

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Knowledge of direct marketing principals and production of appropriate collateral
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience managing multiple projects in deadline driven environment
  • Demonstrated experience or knowledge identifying trends in continuing education and/or initiating new programming activities for adults

Hiring Range 6, $55,406 (min) - $69,257 (midpoint) - $83,108 (max) based on qualifications and experience. This position has excellent fringe benefits including four weeks annual vacation.

This is a fixed term academic staff position as a Outreach Program Manager II (Marketing Director) on an annual basis, 100% appointment, renewable annually.
