The Program Manager will work under the direction of the President & CEO on essential day-to-day management of events and programs, as always as assist in the long-term strategic planning for the organization. This position will assist with events and programming, as well as aspects of membership engagement. Other key duties include development, coordinating and supervising volunteers and interns. The Program Manager will serve as a public representative of the Chamber and will work to cultivate relationships with Chamber members, partner organizations and business leaders around Wisconsin.

This position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. The Program Manager must be able to take initiative, prioritize, multitask, and set and meet deadlines. The Program Manager must have reliable transportation and be able to travel around the state to attend Chamber events and meetings, and must be available to run occasional errands for the organization.

Major Duties & Tasks

1. Organize and implement events and activities in accordance with the mission of the Chamber (40%)

  • Assist with the planning and staffing of regular and special Chamber events throughout the year
  • Work with staff to plan and organize event details such as scheduling, contacting venues, organizing guest lists, creating guest nametags, sending out invitations and arranging materials
  • Assist in promotion of Chamber events through online marketing, email marketing and direct marketing
  • Staff regular and special Chamber events and council meetings throughout the state
  • Assist in post-event evaluations and survey creation

2. Oversee the planning and execution of Chamber signature programs (35%)

  • Oversee and manage the Chamber’s Emerging Leaders Mentorship Program
  • Oversee and manage the Chamber’s Workforce Development program in partnership with Pathfinders
  • Work with the Membership & Events Coordinator to develop and implement the Chamber Volunteer Ambassador Program
  • Assist the President & CEO with all other Chamber programming and activities (e.g. prepare presentation and workshop materials, staff occasional meetings, assist in survey creation, and offer other support as needed for Council meetings)

3. Assist with organizational and event fundraising (10%)

  • Analyze event fundraising revenues and expenses and prepare ways to help improve event performanc
  • Reach out and secure new funding sources (e.g. improve member outreach campaigns, develop sponsorship opportunities and registration rates for special events and programs, seek grants and donations in support of the LGBT Chamber Foundation, etc.)
  • Develop and implement strategies for improving corporate member outreach and communications (e.g. streamline interactions with prospective and current corporate members, write proposals for corporate members and track and monitor corporate member benefits, etc.)

4. Assist with administrative operations (10%)

  • Assist with the training and retention of interns and volunteers (e.g. developing job descriptions, training materials, and providing direction and feedback) 
  • Maintain regular, ongoing communication on behalf of the Chamber (e.g. answering and returning phone calls, attending meetings, leading presentations, responding to online inquiries, emailing members, regular check-ins with President & CEO, etc.) 
  • Assist in planning the Chamber calendar and creating timelines for projects and events

5. Publicly serve as a Chamber leader and spokesperson (5%)

  • Enhance the Chamber’s public image by being active and visible in the community and by representing the Chamber at events throughout the state 
  • Establish and maintain relationships with members, partner organizations, and business leaders to help strategically enhance the Chamber’s mission

Working Conditions
Work is performed predominantly at the Chamber’s Milwaukee office, however the Program Manger will at times travel to visit members on site, and for special events and meetings around the state on a regular basis. This includes frequent trips to Madison and Northeast Wisconsin.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA) Qualifications

  • Proven work experience in and knowledge of LGBT issues, nonprofit management, event planning, program management, and/or communications
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Email and Google Docs
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability to think creatively and analytically
  • Strong interpersonal skills, must be comfortable on the phone and interacting with the public 
  • Organized, dependable and detail oriented, must be able to multitask and meet multiple deadlines
  • Able to work well independently under own direction and as part of a team
  • Skills in graphic and/or website design and online/social media tool management are a plus, but not required 

Requirements

  • Has earned or is pursuing degree in relevant field; or comparable work experience 
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of member information 
  • Must be committed to excellent customer service and the vision and values of the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce 
  • The individual must be committed to diversity, equity and inclusion in the community and the workplace 
  • Available to work 40 hours a week, typical schedule is flexible between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday; some early mornings and evenings will be required 
  • Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel around the state

This is a salaried position. Salary is $32,000 to $36,000 a year.
